Harbor’s Edge Hosts Supreme Allied Commander of NATO for Current Affairs Forum

Norfolk, VA – Harbor’s Edge, Norfolk’s premier retirement community, is pleased to announce that  Admiral Pierre Vandier, Supreme Allied Commander of NATO and a French Navy four-star admiral,  will be the featured speaker at the community’s March Current Affairs Forum. This exclusive event, held for Harbor’s Edge residents, is part of a long-standing series hosted by renowned economist  and resident, Dr. Fred Bergsten.

The Current Affairs Forum, a hallmark event for Harbor’s Edge, has attracted prominent speakers  and experts on a wide range of pressing global and national issues, including the Ukraine-Russia  War, U.S. economic outlook, climate change, the U.S. educational system, and the Middle East  wars. The series fosters spirited discussions and debates among residents, who bring their diverse  backgrounds and expertise to the table.

“Residents who live at Harbor’s Edge come from varied educational backgrounds and professions, and they bring a host of different insights to the conversation,” said Bergsten, who has led the forum  since moving to the community three years ago. “Staying engaged in current affairs while drawing  on our past experiences helps us all contribute actively to society and find meaningful ways to remain involved.”

Admiral Vandier’s visit marks a significant milestone for the forum. As the Supreme Allied  Commander Transformation (SACT), Admiral Vandier leads NATO’s Allied Command  Transformation (ACT), headquartered in Norfolk. His presentation will provide insights into his  responsibilities and the strategic role of his command within NATO.

In addition to Admiral Vandier’s appearance in March, the forum featured a top executive from  Dominion Energy to speak on wind power solutions along Virginia’s coast next month. Bergsten  himself, a former assistant for international economic affairs to Henry Kissinger and assistant  secretary for international affairs at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, has also contributed to  discussions on topics such as U.S.-China relations and foreign economic policy.

Later this year, the Current Affairs Forum will host Dr. Elias Zerhouni, author of “Disease Knows No  Politics,” to speak on the role of politics in the US healthcare system and his experience of  developing disease interventions in the private and public sectors.

The Current Affairs Forum exemplifies Harbor’s Edge’s commitment to fostering intellectual  engagement and lifelong learning among its residents. Prospective residents interested in learning  more about the community and its vibrant programs can visit www.harborsedgenorfolk.com
