Current Affairs Program Enriches Resident Discussions with Distinguished Speakers
NORFOLK, Va., April 24, 2025 – Harbor’s Edge, Norfolk, Virginia’s premier retirement community, welcomed Adm. Pierre Vandier, supreme allied commander of NATO, as the featured speaker at its Current Affairs Forum.
Vandier, a four-star admiral in the French navy, gave an insightful presentation on his strategic role within NATO and the responsibilities of the Allied Command Transformation, based in Norfolk.
Hosted by renowned economist Fred Bergsten, this exclusive event for residents on March 27 was part of an ongoing series that attracts prominent speakers to address pressing global and national issues such as the Ukraine-Russia War, U.S. economic outlook and climate change. The Current Affairs Forum is a cornerstone of Harbor’s Edge’s commitment to fostering intellectual engagement and lifelong learning among residents.
“Residents who live at Harbor’s Edge come from varied educational backgrounds and professions, and they bring a host of different insights to the conversation,” said Bergsten, who has led the forum since moving to Harbor’s Edge three years ago. “Staying engaged in current affairs while drawing on our past experiences helps us all contribute actively to society and find meaningful ways to remain involved.”
Bergsten, a former assistant for international economic affairs to Henry Kissinger and assistant secretary for international affairs at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, also has contributed to forum discussions on topics such as U.S.-China relations and foreign economic policy.
