The Role of Pets at Harbor’s Edge

For many of us, pets aren’t just animals, they’re family. At Harbor’s Edge, we know that just the thought of moving without your furry sidekick can feel impossible. That’s why we welcome pets in our Independent Living apartments. After all, no one should have to leave their best friend behind when starting a new chapter.

Of course, to keep life comfortable for everyone (both pet lovers and non-pet owners), we do have a few guidelines. Here are the basics:

  • Pets need to be up to date on vaccinations and in good health (as confirmed by a licensed vet).
  • Residents should be able to care for their pets on their own and keep their living spaces clean.
  • Pets should be good neighbors – no excessive barking or whining, especially late at night or early in the morning.
  • Each pet needs two emergency contacts (one must be outside of Harbor’s Edge), just in case something unexpected comes up.

We also fully comply with ADA regulations for service animals and FHA regulations for assistance animals.

We believe this approach creates the best of both worlds: residents who can’t imagine life without a pet get to bring them along, while neighbors who prefer peace and quiet can still enjoy a calm environment.

What’s a day in the life of a Harbor’s Edge pet like? Well, much like our human residents, pups can live their ideal day every day. Even for four-legged friends, choice is always on the menu here.

We have two on-campus dog parks where pups can stretch their legs or meet up for playdates. Plus, a group of residents created the Paws & Claws Club. This group helps pet owners with everything from sharing vet recommendations to lending a hand if someone’s under the weather and needs help with their pet. They also work with staff members to plan fun events like Yappy Hours in the dog park, a Halloween pet parade, obedience classes, and even therapy dog training so our furry friends can spread joy throughout the community.

At Harbor’s Edge, we’re all about helping you live the life you want. For many, that means keeping your four-legged family member right by your side.
