If you’re thinking about moving on to a new chapter of your life with Harbor’s Edge, but don’t want to leave your pet behind, don’t worry! Harbor’s Edge is a pet-friendly community that welcomes you to bring your pet with you to your new home. Having your pet by your side through move-in can make the transition fun and less nerve-wracking. Take comfort in the fact that your pet will be there with you every step of the way! There’s a reason why so many pets are emotional support animals. Pets can offer immense comfort to residents and help alleviate any stress they may be feeling about their move.
On top of emotional comfort, pets can bring residents physical comfort through petting and cuddling, activities known to reduce blood pressure and anxiety. At Harbor’s Edge, we don’t want anyone to have to leave behind their best furry friend to move into our Independent Living apartments. Move-in brings a lot of changes, but residents can take comfort in the fact that their relationship with their pet is one that doesn’t have to change. We even have two dog parks for you and your pet to enjoy every day!
Having a pet also helps seniors remain active and increase their opportunities for social interaction. Getting the physical exercise required for taking care of a pet also helps keep residents active and moving daily. Our residents who have pets on campus easily form friendships with other pet-owner residents through the shared experience and connection they have with their pets. Whether they meet while taking their dogs on walks around the community or through gushing over pictures of each other’s animals, having a pet can be a great way for seniors to stay social after moving into our community.
Even residents who don’t bring a pet with them can experience some of these benefits through others who do. Interacting with pets can help all residents who come across them! Like the therapy dogs that visit hospitals and college campuses during finals, even short visits with animals can help reduce stress, offer comfort, and bring some joy to your day.
We recently had a Halloween pet parade where all our four-legged residents dressed up and walked around the community together, showing off their costumes to each other and all the human residents. Harbor’s Edge is happy to call these adorable parade participants residents along with their people!
If you’re considering a move to a Life Plan retirement community but don’t want to leave your pet behind, Harbor’s Edge welcomes you both!
